Reptile Time: An Embodied Play Date
2022
Launched in 2022, Research Month (RM) is an annual program of research events curated by the Lectorate of The Academy of Theater and Dance in Amsterdam which take place over the course of a month every January. The focus is on sharings of diverse research practices by students, teachers, researchers, alumni, professionals, artists-in-residence and guests in a way that pluralises ideas of what research can be for both internal and external audiences.
Events include performances, symposia, workshops, talks, installations, exhibitions, walks, listening sessions and social gatherings. Kai Hazelwood was an artist in residence for Research Month 2024. - Guided by the wisdom of creatures who shed their skin, who live perpetually in massive transformation, we will play with how to cultivate a deep slowing down to reach Reptile Time. Through easeful movement, breath, sensation tracking, journalling and resting. We will slow enough for grief. Slow enough to live. Slow enough for being truly alive in apocalypse. This workshop requires some movement, but the scale of that movement is set by individuals. In other words, it is accessible to any kind of body.
